How to make fitness fun: the best way to enjoy your active lifestyle!

1- Find an activity you enjoy

For many people, getting fit and staying healthy begins with finding an activity they enjoy. A lot of times we think we need to do something crazy like lifting supernatural weights in the gym or running 10k in order to stay fit. However, exercise doesn’t have to be something strenuous or time-consuming; even moderate physical activity can help your body stay healthy.

There are plenty of different fitness activities you can enjoy, so find one that peaks your interest and gives you a sense of satisfaction after completing it. Depending on your personality, some popular choices include biking, hiking, swimming, playing tennis or basketball, training at the gym or at home… A while ago, we even put together a list on how to find your new active hobby, so make sure to check it out 🙂

Whis is this advice important? If you find an activity you enjoy and make fitness part of your lifestyle, instead of a chore you have to complete, you’ll be more likely to stick with it.

2- Working out with a friend can make fitness more enjoyable and motivating

Working out with a friend can make any fitness activity or routine more enjoyable and motivating. In general, exercise can be fun when done in a social setting and provides multiple perspectives to help keep you on track.

On the other hand, working out with friends also helps directly increase motivation. Research has found that people are more likely to stick with a fitness routine if they find it enjoyable and stimulating, which is why working out with friends can be so successful.

In that sense, gym or fitness buddies can be a great help when trying to stay fit. Having someone there who wants to go along with your workout routine makes it easier to stick with it. You also have someone to talk to about how hard it is working out, and a person who can push your limits and spark a your competitivity instincts.

3- Get creative: shake your workouts up to make them more enjoyable

If you’re looking to make your workouts more enjoyable, one of the best things you can do is mix things up a little! A lot of the time we stop training because we get bored, which is why trying to incorporate some creativity into our routine can be so key.

In this sense, there are many ways to spice things up in your fitness life. For example, if you always train at the gym, you can change up the equipment you use. I.e., if you’re used to working out on a treadmill or elliptical machine, try using a cross trainer or bike for a different workout experience.

Of course, you can always add in new exercises or challenges to your routine, specially if you’re not at the gym but enjoying an overall active lifestyle. There are a million challenges you can tackle in almost any sport you can think of, so the possibilities here are truly endless!

4- Having a plan for your workouts will help you stay on track and make fitness more fun

If you want to make fitness more fun so you canstick with your workouts and your active life, having a plan is key. Although it might seem counterintuitive, planning your workouts in advance will help you stay on track and avoid boredom.

In order to do that, it’s imperative that you choose a workout schedule that fits into your lifestyle. Make sure the times of day you exercise are convenient for you; and actually plan them beforehand. If you try to «just wing it», it’s much more probable that you will end up doing nothing.

By creating a routine that you enjoy, you’ll be less likely to skip workouts, and you’ll be more likely to stick with your active lifestyle. And as per our advice above, make sure to mix things up to keep your workouts exciting.

5- Reward yourself every time you work out!

Even if you do everything perfectly, training or exercising can still feel like a chore sometimes. If you want to stay consistent with this for the rest of your life (and you probably should!), you’ll need to find a way to keep your motivation high at all times. And if nothing else works, you can rest assured that good ol’ rewards are perfect for this.

So, when you work out succesfully, reward yourself with something good! This way, you’ll continue to workout and improve your body and your health on the long run. You can choose any small reward you like: from a healthy but yummy meal on the weeked if you’ve been consistent with your exercise plans, to a small trip when you reach that difficult goal at the gym, your imagination is the limit!
